General Finishes

General Finishes are environmentally friendly water-based stains.

Application instructions:

  1. Fill nail holes with Fix Wood Patch. Do not use plastic wood.
  2. Sand specific areas with 120 sandpaper to clear blemishes.
  3. After taking care of holes and blemishes, sand the entire piece uniformly with 180-grade sandpaper. Finer sandpaper or steel wool should not be used as they polish the surface off too smoothly.
  4. Remove dust with a vacuum and tack cloth.
  5. Stir the stain thoroughly before beginning and occasionally during application to ensure a uniform color.
  6. Test the color on a concealed area that has been prepared as directed to check that you have selected the proper color.
  7. Apply the stain liberally, one section at a time while keeping the surface wet with a foam brush or latex paint applicator. If the stain is not applied liberally, an uneven appearance may result.
  8. After completing each section, wipe off evenly with a soft cloth.
  9. One coat is all that is required. Darker colors may be obtained by waiting eight to 10 hours to apply a section coat in the same manner as the first.
  10. Wait eight to ten hours before applying your choice of top coat.
