Mastercraft: Paint-stains

This product can be applied as a stain or as a paint.

Application instructions:

  1. Fill nail holes with Fix Wood Patch. Do not use plastic wood.
  2. Sand specific areas with 120 sandpaper to clear blemishes.
  3. After taking care of holes and blemishes, sand the entire piece uniformly with 180-grade sandpaper. Finer sandpaper or steel wool should not be used as they polish the surface off too smoothly.
  4. Remove dust with a vacuum and tack cloth.
  5. Test the color on a concealed area that has been prepared as directed to check that you have selected the proper color.
  6. For the look of a stain, wipe or brush one coat of gel and wipe off with a soft cloth, allowing the grain to show through the coat.
  7. For a painted look, apply several coats of gel with a foam brush.
  8. You can achieve maximum protection for the colors by adding a top coat, making sure to allow the stain or pain to dry overnight before applying.
  9. Since these colors will be affected by a regular urethane finish, it is best to choose a water-based product that will be less yellowing.
